Let’s face it, why wouldn’t you want to visit a city that boasts over 300 days of sunshine? And with one of the best rated golf destinations in the country, what a way to enjoy that sun. Austin is one destination that almost guarantees a great vacation, whether its music, sports or just hanging by the pool.

When to Visit Based on Price

Summer and winter are the best times to visit Austin for great hotel rates. The summer rates are low because it’s just so darn hot, but if you can stand the heat, there are no crowds, and room by the pools. Winter months are less popular, but there are still major events to see, and lower prices.
Low Season: July to August and November to February are less busy. Average Daily Rates of:
  • 2 Star: $47-$159
  • 3 Star: $91-$310
  • 4 Star: $98-$350
High Season: March through May; September and October offers the best weather but crowds. Average Daily Rates of:
  • 2 Star: $47-$400
  • 3 Star: $95-$490
  • 4 Star: $259-$380
Magic Savings Tip: Although there are some excellent “fine dining” establishments in Austin, you’re in Texas, and these guys and gals know how to cook and eat. Save a few or more dollars and eat some of the best street food in the world. Just eliminating the tip alone is money in your pocket.

Sights you mustn’t miss

Visit the Congress Bridge around dusk to experience what it's like to have over 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats swarm out from under the bridge and over your head. Suggestion, bring an umbrella.

Fun things to do

Rent a bike at Rocket Electric’s and tour downtown. That’s right, these aren’t the bikes of your childhood, but in fact electric powered with a kick! Head out on your own or take one of their tours like the “Live Music Tour”. Be warned, there is no available ‘designated driver” so be careful.
Take a tour or ride to your destination in a Pedicab? It’s the perfect way to safely visit a few nightclubs without worrying about driving, and a way to have much more fun. During the day when traffic can be intense, you driver will scoot around town un-obstructed and get you to your destination.
Take a Lake Travis Zip-line tour over the lake. Get the old juices flowing as you reach speeds of well over 60 mph.

Wine and Dine Tips

Austin is home to some exciting and sudsy breweries, so why not visit a few and take a tour of the brewery. They also enjoy menus unique to each brewery, and a great place to have lunch.
A terrific way to experience different foods of Austin, especially with your children is to visit one or more of the famous food trucks or “trailer eatery” which has gone bonkers lately. Have every one in your party choose a different trailer, and order the “meal of the day”, so everyone gets to try.
The “Austin Eats Food Tour” is a fantastic way to learn about the foods that make this city a super food capital. This walking tour needed because of the food you sample)

Day Trips

While visiting Austin, if time allows you need to take a day trip to San Antonio, and its famous chapel, The Alamo. Although you won’t find Davy Crocket or Daniel Boone manning the walls, guns ablaze, you will find the feeling of the history. Many brave men fought and died so that Texas could live. Of course, while in San Antonio, you’ll have to enjoy dining and a few sips along its famous “River walk”.
Take a drive to Lockhart, Texas where they say you’ll find the best barbeque in the world. It’s worth the miles to experience barbeque at its finest, in restaurants including Black’s Barbeque, Smitty’s and Kreux, you will be hard pressed to pic a favorite here.
