Boise is an outdoor paradise any time of year. It’s one of the most famous states for fly-fishing in the United States, has white water rafting adventures, nature trails and wildlife galore. During winter months, Idaho has legendary powder skiing. It also has clean mountain air that helps you get that good night sleep you have been missing.

When to Visit Boise Based on Price

The best time to vacation in Boise is from September through March when visitors are fewer and prices are reasonable if looking for the best rates.

Low Season: September through March is less busy. Average Daily Rates of:

  • 2 Star: $48-$125
  • 3 Star: $57-$165
  • 4 Star: $100-$175
High Season: April through August offers the best weather, and destination for families.  Average Daily Rates of:
  • 2 Star: $49-$150
  • 3 Star: $58-$220
  • 4 Star: $150-$250
Magic Savings Tip: Try to plan your visit ahead, and around major festivals in summer, and holiday skiing in winter.

Sights you mustn’t miss

Take a ride on the Boise Trolley Tour in the North End of downtown. This is an excellent way to see and learn about the history of Boise.
Visit the Old Idaho State Penitentiary, and get an idea of how criminals used to spend their time. No video games, computers, gym or the like back then.
Visit the Whittenberger Planetarium and “take a ride” outside Idaho, and into and beyond the stars.

Fun things to do

Book a white water rafting trip on one of Idaho’s famous rivers, the Snake, Salmon or Lochsa River. Idaho has more whitewater miles than any state in the 48 bottom states.
You are in Fly Fishing Heaven for anglers, so bring your gear and get ready to test your skills in any of the hundred streams and rivers.
If you visit in the winter months, deep powder awaits bot skiers and boarders. Don’t be intimidated if you don’t know how because lessons are available.
When the weather is willing, the Boise area enjoys some beautiful golf courses to practice your swing.

Wine and Dine Tips

You have many choices for dining in Boise, with most offering great beef choices. But have no fear; there are a fair share of Asian, Italian and other menu’s arount too. Here are a few of the local favorites.
Bittercreek Alehouse is just what it says, a brewery, but don’t expect your usual pub menu. In addition to some excellent brews, this restaurant will entice you with their fried chicken, Halibut, Spicy Lamb Burger and more.
For “fine dining” an excellent choice would be Chandlers Steak & Seafood Restaurant. Serving Kobe style beef, prime corn fed steaks, and fresh seafood, you just can’t go wrong. And don’t forget to start and or end your evening with a visit to the Martini Bar.
For the family looking for some fun, adventure and reasonable prices, it’s time for pizza. Not just any pizza, but PizzalChik pizza. This family owned and run pizza place enjoys indoor and outdoor seating. Name it and it’s on your pizza. And for the adults in the room, there’s wine and beer too.

Day Trips

One of the best and most popular day trips are north on highway 95 to Banks along the Payette River. A stop and a dip in the Kirkham Hot Springs, on to Stanley where you can hit the deli for sandwiches and beverages for a picnic might work. Find someplace to stop and enjoy the views of the Sawtooth Mountains.
Another great daytrip is to drive to Table Rock and then up to the Snake River Canyon. Don’t forget the camera.

Where to Stay

Cheap rooms can be found at some of the best luxury hotel suites in the state. Most vacationers like to book their room near some of the more popular area attractions such as the zoo or the Boise Towne Square Mall. Other popular spots for cheap Boise hotels are the areas around Boise State University and the Idaho State Capitol Building.
For a three star property, the Owyhee Plaza Hotel is a good choice. It features an on-site restaurant, spa facilities, event space, wireless internet access, a pool and fitness facility. For a property closer to the mall, the Harrison Plaza Suite Hotel can meet your vacation needs. Along with cheap Boise accommodations, the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast, shuttle service and indoor pool.
