The town was named by a group of revolutionaries who admired the Roman general Cincinnatus. It was the dominant centre of the Middle West for many years and the birthplace of William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States.

Visitors to Cincinnati can catch a ride over to Newport in Kentucky, which is only a short bus or car trip. The biggest attractions is Newport on the Levee, which is an entertainment complex that includes an enormous 20 theatre cinema, shops, restaurants and much more. There is also an aquarium with a range of interesting marine life.It is also possible to visit Chicago as a day trip from Cincinnati (4 hours drive), which is the largest city in the Midwest and has a lot of interesting architecture, art galleries and museums.
