Corpus Christi is a coastal city which is located in the South of Texas and its name is Latin for “Body of Christ”. The name “Corpus Christi” was granted to this area in 1519 by the Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda because he came upon the lush bayregion on the feast day that celebrated the Body of Christ.
It is the gateway to Padre Island and it also offers enough attractions to warrant a visit in its own right. It is known as the “Texas Riviera” or the “Sparkling City by the Sea”.
Key Attractions
One of the most popular attractions is the USS Lexington, which is a large WWII aircraft carrier that is permanently moored in the bay and has been turned into a museum. It’s a great opportunity to learn about naval life.Another major draw is the Texas State Aquarium, which gives you a chance to see a number of diverse underwater species close up. You can even arrange ahead of time to work with a dolphin trainer and interact with dolphins.
Of course, many people come to Corpus Christi for the sunny weather so that they can relax on the beaches. North Beach is the most convenient beach, close to the main tourist attractions.
