St. Augustine is known as the “Oldest City in the Nation” – as it is the oldest European-established continuously occupied settlement in the USA. It was founded way back in September 1565 by Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, a Spanish admiral. It was the capital city of Spanish Florida for around 200 years and was also the capital of the Florida Territory until this designation was given to Tallahassee in 1824.
This city is a great tourist attraction, with a lot of historic romance, a charming old world character and lots of art galleries, shops and restaurants.
