Architectural tours are popular here, taking in the various styles of the heritage building in the city. Notable buildings include City Hall, the John H Bass Mansion, the Masonic Temple and the courthouse, now a National Historic Landmark.

Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo boasts more than 1,500 animals including tigers, lemurs and orangutans, and also offers carousel rides, pony rides, a zoo train and a sky ride.
Johnny Appleseed Park is a favourite on weekends, with its riverside walk, picnic areas and jogging lanes.
American art is displayed in the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, the hands-on Science Central museum is another treat for children, and the iconic Art Deco ‘movie palace’ of the Embassy Theatre was rescued from demolition and restored to its former glory.

A huge choice of dining options from classic American through Thai, Japanese and Italian cuisine can be had in Fort Wayne, with the best choice in and around the downtown area.

Day trips

Half an hour from Fort Wayne is the famous Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, a tribute to the city’s earlier years as a hub for the automobile industry. Exhibits like the first ever petrol pump are displayed, and close by are several other museums devoted to everything automobile, including WWII land vehicles.
The pretty town of Albion with its Black Pine Animal Sanctuary and imposing courthouse is within a comfortable drive.
