North Charleston is the third largest city in the state of South Caroline and one of the major industrial centres within the state. When Boeing chose it as the production centre for their new 787 Dreamliner aircraft, the city became one of the major aircraft centres in the world. Also, the Silver Service Palmetto which is operated by Amtrak – travels between New York and Tampa, stopping in North Charleston on the way and bringing visitors to this city.
North Charleston is not as popular a tourist attraction as its “cousin” Charleston, but it still offers a lot for visitors to see and do. It is also known for its architecture, with This Old House Magazine naming it one of the “Best Old House Neighbourhoods” in the country.

Check out the Fireman’s Museum in North Charleston, which is often a favourite with children. It displays plenty of interesting old firefighting equipment and trucks. Admission is $6 and children under 13 are free.If you are interested in Civil War history, head to the Magnolia Cemetery which is where many important families from the area are buried as well as three crews of the Hunley, a Civil War Submarine. The cemetery also offers beautiful views of the Ravenel Bridge.
