And then there’s The Warf, with its restaurants, shopping, and hotels and of course, the boardwalk. The main attraction is its Ferris wheel, the largest in the south east.
Fun things to do
If your looking for a fun outdoor attraction for families with children, there’s Adventure Island, with everything from go carts, mini-golf, rides and arcade games. For the scuba divers in the family, or those curious, there are multiple certified Dive Shops offering fantastic dives and introductory dive classes as well.
Local golf courses offer some fine greens and very attractive rates for 18 holes, especially twilight.
Orange Beach is pretty well known for its game fishing, so a half or all day charter fishing trip will no doubt be an adventure.
Wine and Dine Tips
Being that you will be on the southern coast, it’s a good chance that fresh seafood will be in order daily. However, there is a fair share of other menus available in this vacation town, and you won’t go hungry. The following are some suggestions liked by visitors as well as locals. It’s always advised to check with your hotel for local recommendations and special places too.If you visit Pleasure Island, a table at Cotton’s Restaurant is sure to put a smile on your face, and stop the rumbling in your tummy. A great place for couples or the whole family, with fresh fish, live Maine Lobster, steaks and more.
For a no-frills, all you can eat, seafood extravaganza, with great food, Doc’s Seafood Shack & oyster bar on Canal Street is your place. Medium prices, highly rated, this waterfront “shack” serves some of the best gumbo, shrimp and oysters in the land.
Day Trips
If you get up at the crack of dawn, making the three-hour journey to New Orleans is well worth it. Even if you want to just experience the French Quarter restaurants and bars. However, be safe, and if you need to, extend your stay overnight in a hotel, so jail isn’t an option.Another closer and enjoyable trip is Pensacola, Florida and a visit to the Naval Aviation Museum. There’s also some excellent fishing and day boating too.
