The beaches on the Island of Penang are the draw for most visitors. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, you can grab a towel and find a site to relax. If you’re looking for beach activity, then Jet Ski, Para-sailing and more await you.
A visit to the Reclining Buda, a massive gold plated statue of Buddha, the temple called Wat Chayamangkalaram is one of the largest in the world of a reclining Buddha.
The Kek Lok Si Temple is perhaps the largest Buddhist in all South East Asia.
This temple, which is over 100 years old, has seven tiers, called the Pagoda of 1000 Buddha’s. An interesting fact is that this temple represents architecture of China, Burma and Thailand.
Visit the Burmese Temple, founded back in 1803. This temple is located on Burma Lane, is ornate and beautiful.
Another old temple that should be on your list to visit is the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, built back in 1833. This temple is one of Penang’s oldest and most visited.

Fun things to do

Shopping on Penang’s “Hollywood Boulevard”, Penang Road during the day, and partying all night is what’s happening. From designer stores, to fine dining restaurants, nightclubs and bars, this street will entertain you for hours.
Spend some time at Fort Cornwallis, the fort in a shape of a star and its copper cannons. You get to tour the prison, chapel, ammunition bunkers and more.
Another fun and historic adventure is the Penang War Museum, which was actually built by British army. You will be standing on the grounds of the British fortress that was overrun by the Japanese invasion army. The fortress, Bukit Maung is haunted they say, buy the prisoners that were tortured there. They say that locals won’t go near it after dark.

Wine and Dine Tips

Hands down there aren’t many places on earth, known for their street food, as Penang is famous for theirs. Called “Hawker Food”, these booths serve some of the finest gourmet flavors you can imagine. Step up to one of these and buy “todays special”, sit at a little table, and get a glimpse of what food in heaven tastes like.
You need to do this once, and will probably buy all you meals from these booths.
Gurney Drive Hawker Center is an excellent place with some of the tastiest hawker food in an area of seafood restaurants.
If looking to experience something different, and a cut above the rest, The Sire Museum Restaurant is sure to tempt your taste buds. This is a magical old restaurant complete with the tradition of loud voices, and traditional food.
