Reno is a fun and exciting destination for young and old, because it’s not only about gambling. Granted, you probably are there for the games, but most of the casinos have entertainment and or game rooms set up for children. Outdoors, weather permitting, there are nature walks, beautiful golf courses as well as Lake Tahoe in close proximity for water sports or skiing.

When to Visit Based on Price

The best time of year to plan your visit in Reno is during spring and fall when crowds are fairly low.
• Low Season: January through March and September through November is less busy. Average Daily Rates of:

  • 2 Star: $33-$161
  • 3 Star: $45-$180
  • 4 Star: $55-$160

• High Season: June through August and November through Christmas offers the best weather, and destination for families. Average Daily Rates of:

  • 2 Star: $39-$165
  • 3 Star: $47-$191
  • 4 Star: $59-$167

Magic Savings Tip: If only planning to visit for a few days, planning your stay mid week can reward you with lower hotel rates all year long.

Sights you mustn’t miss

Spend some time salivating over the greater than 200 vehicles on display for you in the National Automobile Museum.
The museum is one of five and offers cars in authentic street settings with sound.
Another excellent adventure for the whole family is a visit to the Fleischman Planetarium, where you can become a stargazer all day long.

Fun things to do

If you need an escape from the casinos for a while, a visit to the Sierra Safari Zoo could fit the bill. Located in north Reno, you can find a plethora of animals from the cat family to hoof stock.
For the thrill seeker, it’s a visit to the Ultimate Rush Thrill Park where if you dare, jump off the 185 foot tower for an experience quite like bungee jumping, sky diving and hang gliding all combined.

Wine and Dine Tips

If you enjoy a glass of wine every now and then, along with some exercise, then the Reno Wine Walk is for you. If your in town on the 3rd Saturday of the month, join this fun walk downtown Reno along the Truckee River.
Two excellent choices for restaurants in downtown Reno are Manzanita and the Roundabout Bistro.
If you can’t seem to pull yourself away from the casino, then hit one of the excellent buffets or all you can eat Japanese Sushi Bars.
Buffet dining is common place in Reno and a great way to save money, especially when traveling as a family. The Roundabout Bistro is located in downtown Reno and offers homemade pasta dishes and prime steak cut to its guests.
There are plenty of fine-dining options available as well. Manzanita is designed with the distinguished foodie in mind. Menu items include double pork chop with braised red cabbage, Yukon gold gnocchi and Atlantic salmon with a Pinot Noir reduction.

Day Trips

An easy drive to Lake Tahoe makes for an adventure away from Reno, with boat rentals, water skiing (temperature permitting), fishing or just sunning. During the spring, summer and fall, there’s nothing like playing 18 holes of golf at one of the courses. Winter and early spring brings fantastic skiing and boarding at the slopes.
Another awesome day trip is to historic Virginia City, a town engulfed in the gold rush days and a major part of the American West.
Then there’s the historic town of Truckee, and Donner Lake. Stroll the old streets, visit the shops and museums, and you will soon discover you are back ion the 1800’s, looking for a gunfight, or maybe a shot of whiskey at the local saloon.

Where to Stay

The best way to enjoy Reno is to book into a resort with all the perks included. Guests will love the four-star Siena Hotel Spa Casino and the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa where the amenities include a full-service health spa, an indoor pool and in-house casinos.
Inside some of the biggest casinos you'll find child-friendly attractions to keep the kids entertained for hours. Circus Circus has carnival games galore while Atlantis has a family-fun center filled with arcade and video games.
If you'd prefer to spend the day outdoors, go for a walk along the hilly River Trails and enjoy the beautiful weather. You can also reserve a tee off time at the Lakeridge Golf Course or the Washoe County Golf Course for a relaxing afternoon. The Club Lakeridge Resort is also a great place to stay if you're after a relaxing vacation surrounded by golfing greens.
