Sights you mustn’t miss

Visiting Old Sacramento qualifies for both sights you must see and fun to do. This town of Sacramento started here in Old Sac as settlers who were intent on becoming rich during the gold strike call it, back in 1848. Stroll the old wooden plank walkways, visit the shops, have an old time ice crème or enjoy lunch or dinner.
Visit the California State Railroad Museum and see a world class exhibit of old steam engine trains and equipment. Who doesn’t get excited when they hear one of these old trains fire up the engine and ride up the track. Visit and you will join them.
A visit to the Sacramento Zoo is a terrific experience, for some exercise, exotic animal and plant experiences, and photo ops. From big cats to Kangaroos and apes, this is one of the nicest zoos in the states.

Fun things to do

The beauty of Sacramento includes it river, the Sacramento River, where steelhead Trout are still running and a fisherman’s paradise. A day or two with a guide on this river can be extremely rewarding.
Another fun experience is taking a Riverboat Cruise on the Sacramento River. Experience what these boats provided so many years ago on the rivers od the deep south and elsewhere.

Wine and Dine Tips

A visit to Fanny Ann’s Saloon in Old Sacramento is a fun experience and offers some excellent pub food, especially the burgers. Enjoy a beer or cocktail while you take in your surroundings of old photos and artifacts. If sitting at the bar, look up, and you’ll see an old carriage suspended in the ceiling.
The Firehouse Restaurant is actually the old firehouse turned restaurant, serving International, Seafood and American cuisine. This is a great choice for a romantic dinner with your lady or man in your life.
Another favorite for locals and visitors is Joe’s Crab Shack, located on the river. For lunch or dinner, what you get here is fresh daily seafood, and lot’s of choices.

Day Trips

Your choices are many for day trips from Sacramento. You are under a hundred miles from the Sierra Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, gold rush towns and famous wine regions.
If looking for a fun and rewarding day why not jump in the car early in the morning and head to Napa / Sonoma Valley for a day of wine tasting. After all, it’s only the most famous wine regions in the United States.
Within a half an hour is the old mining and historic town of Placerville. A great place to walk about and shop, experience the spirit of the gold rush. There’s also an excellent brewery downtown to spend some tine for lunch.
