San José was originally an agricultural community, but after World War II began the city’s main economy shifted to industry. When IBM established its West Coast headquarters in San José, the technological side of the economy started to grow. These days, it is called the “Capital of Silicon Valley” and is home to a number of technology companies.

As a result, the house is a strange labyrinthine construction with dead ends and stairways that go nowhere.
