Just southeast of Pheonix, Tempe is the seventh largest city in Arizona. It is home to Arizona State University as well as a number of technology companies and big brands such as Motorola, US Airways and Chase Bank Card Services.
However, in addition to being a major corporate and manufacturing city – Tempe also offers a lot of interesting tourist attractions. Its young student population makes for a vibrant nightlife and it also offers plenty of art and culture.
Key Attractions
The campus itself of Arizona State University is worth a visit, as the grounds display tropical and desert plants from all over the world. Also, within the University you will find a number of free exhibits and museums.On a beautiful summer day, take a bike ride or a hike around the scenic Tempe Town Lake – which has well maintained paths. Also, the Tempe History Museum is an interesting (and free!) family friendly attraction with history about Tempe from prehistoric times to the modern day.
Having Fun
When it comes to dining, the Mill Avenue District is your best bet – where you will find a diverse range of cuisine including Asian, Mexican, Middle Eastern and of course – classic American food. No matter what food you prefer, you will probably find a great restaurant in Tempe.The nightlife in Tempe is fun and enthusiastic, due to the high proportion of young students in the city. Golf is a very popular sport in Arizona and just outside of the city you will find the Ken McDonald Golf Course and the Rolling Hills Golf Course – both offering excellent golfing facilities at an affordable price.Also just outside of the city is the Big Surf waterpark, which is open during the summer months and offers swimming, waterslides and much more.
