Also known as Colonial Williamsburg, this Virginia town is the largest interactive history museum in the USA. It is the 18th century capital city which has been restored to the time period of the American Revolution. During the period from 1699 to 1780, this city was the capital of the colony and a very important centre for political events.
Along with the nearby settlements of Yorktown and Jamestown, Williamsburg is part of the Historic Triangle. This triangle attracts more than four million tourists per year.
The modern town of Williamsburg is a college town that offers plenty of attractions, dining and nightlife as well.

Key Attractions

The most popular attraction in the city is the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg, which includes more than 80 restored 18th century buildings and many houses, shops and public outbuildings. It is a “living museum” that is designed to make you feel like you have travelled back in time.
You can visit the Governor’s Palace, the Raleigh Tavern where Virginia Patriots met to discuss independence from the Crown and the Capitol – the seat of colonial power. There are many fun interactive demonstrations and guided tours throughout this historic site.
Another popular attraction is Busch Gardens, which is an amusement park with rides, stage shows and more. Also, Water Country USA is a state of the art water part with a 1960s surf theme.

Having Fun

The dining establishments in Williamsburg are mostly located in two main areas – Merchants Square and Richmond Road. Check out Blue Talon for great down-home comfort food and the National Pancake House for great breakfasts with generous proportions.
When it comes to drinking, head to the corner of Richmond Road and Scotland Street, where you will find the Green Leafe and Paul’s Deli – both popular establishments with the local students. Also, the Corner Pocket is a great place to play pool while you drink.

Shopping

Williamsburg is home to one outlet mall – the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. It has a selection of 135 stores and is a great place to find your favourite retail brands at great prices.
Williamsburg is also a great place to shop for pottery, crafts, furniture and home décor. A Touch of Earth on Richmond Road offers beautiful pottery and crafts and Carolina Furniture has great prices on furniture and home décor.
Also, you can purchase a lot of historic reproductions, books about local history and other such items at the Historic Area shops or the retail village in Market Square.

Nearby

Within a short drive you can reach Alexandria, Virginia – where you will find many elegant homes along the Potomac River. Also, you can reach Virginia Beach from here – so that you can relax in the sand or do some golfing.
